Jim Loucks’ live-wire solo performance takes you to the Deep South with preachers shoutin’ from the mountaintops, mamas pickin’ switches, and Hellfire just a heartbeat away. Witty insightful storytelling, quirky characters and down-home Gospel music.
After playing to critical acclaim around the country, Loucks is bringing his rollicking, heartfelt solo performance to Tampa, through the eyes of a little boy growing up surrounded by baptisms (dunk, not sprinkle), the constant worry of the Rapture coming when you aren’t paying attention, and the fear of being the only one who doesn’t believe.
Preacher’s kid Loucks draws from his own Southern childhood for this one-man show that follows a hellfire-and-brimstone Southern Baptist preacher and his family through golf in the cemetery, an altercation with a Hare Krishna, and jumpin’-up-on-the-front-pew-and-wavin’-your-Bible-style sermons.
“Georgia-native Jim Loucks’ animated performance is a gem… Loucks plays a handful of characters in authentic, detailed and often amusing fashion. But what makes “Cemetery Golf” special is that there’s love in the portraits…” Mark Collins, Boulder Daily Camera
“Loucks has the master storyteller’s art locked.” CRITIC’S PICK - Tom McElfresh, Cincinnati Citybeat Winner- “Best Solo Performance” at Houston Fringe for “Booger Red” and at Tucson Fringe for “The Biscuiteater.”
